Paul Yaffe has once again raised the bar following the debut of its new cruiser masterpiece, the R 18 One Eight C. This project proves Yaffe’s excellence as an iconic custom motorcycle visionary. Paul is one of the elite motorcycle builders who makes motorcycle parts that set new standards for the industry. He has been in the custom motorcycle world since 1991, featuring his custom bikes in more than 300 magazine articles, television channels, and shows. Through a network of shared partners in six countries, his works motivate a generation of customizers worldwide.
Having familiarized himself with the BMW R18 B, Paul realized he wanted to make a big wheel bagger unlike before. He wanted his custom creation to maintain authentic BMW traits, retaining sufficient BMW components. More importantly, he ensured this latest creation was not made from or looked similar to parts from his previous creations.
The handmade front tire of the R18 features a 26″ x 5.5″ front wheel cut from a 400lb block of solid aluminum. For the frame to accommodate the new front wheel and special triple trees, it had to be stretched and raked. Also, special triple trees are included to adjust the trail measurement and improve handling for maximum performance.
The design team developed several unique components and refitted existing R 18 elements. The steel front fender was reproduced from scratch. The original R 18 fairing was restructured to reposition the headlight and flow into the new front wheel. The team developed a one-of-a-kind chin spoiler to address the gap between the fuel tank and the fairing, strategically covering the radiator.
Yaffe prioritized two critical components: the side pipes and air suspension, staying true to the classic Lead Sled aesthetic. Paul and his design team created a sophisticated air tank and distribution system and a dedicated frame under each side of the saddlebags to contain essential components like necessary air storage tanks, a sizable air compressor, and all the controls, solenoids, and valves required for practical support and system operation.
